CARMEN MAYO, artistic director
She was born in León (Spain). Her initial formation was influenced by several teachers, among them Margarita Morais and later the great pedagogue and pianist Emmanuel Ferrer-Lalöe. Under his direction she obtained the Degree of Piano and Chamber Music at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid.
In 1988 she obtained a scholarship to study Comparative Music Methodology at Carnegie Mellow University's Faculty of Music (Pittsburg, USA). As a pianist, she has given recitals both as a soloist and with various ensembles and has recorded for Radio 2 Clásica, RNE.
Her interest in different activities of communication and musical broadcasting led her to direct and present (from 2005 to 2008) a radio program dedicated to chamber music: "Sala de Cámara", at ACM Radio in Valencia (Spain). She has taught masterclass in several conservatories and institutions, both Spanish and foreign, including the Conservatorio Superior di Musica "Santa Cecilia" in Roma, Hochschule für Musik in Mannheim (Germany), Conservatorio “Claudio Monteverdi” in Bolzano (Italy) and Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (Portugal). She has also been a jury of various competitions of chamber music.
She has worked in music management and consulting in different projects, coordinating and directing chamber music cycles with various institutions: University of Valencia, Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos and Cultural Center La Beneficencia (Valencia). She is a member of ECMTA (European Association of Chamber Music Teachers) and performs her pedagogical work as Chamber Music Professor at the "Conservatorio Superior de Música "Joaquín Rodrigo" in Valencia (Spain) for more than 20 years.
She is the artistic director of the International Chamber Music Festival "Fundación MonteLeón" since its creation in 2010.
